Full dress is the most elaborate and traditional order worn by the British Army. It was withdrawn from general issue in The Household Division resumed wearing their scarlet and blue full dress in , but for the remainder of the Army, red coats and other colourful items of dress were only worn by regimental bands; in mess dress or on certain limited social or ceremonial occasions. The Infantry is the largest branch of the Army - around a quarter of its strength. Our men and women serve in one of 18 Regiments, which together have 33 Regular Battalions and 16 Reserve Battalions. Many Infanteers will also spend time serving away from Regimental Duty, including as instructors at the School of Infantry and in the wider Army.

Except in regiments (such as the guards of the smaller states now numbered in the line of the army, and a few others) where the blue flap and guard-stripes are worn, the greater part of the Prussian regiments wear the historic red fialp; but there came a time when the system of indicating regimen ta variations had to be expanded, and thereafter. Two regiments that are used primarily for the home defence of British Overseas Territories are included on the list of British Army regiments. Both are primarily infantry regiments.
